The 2018 Straw Bale Workshop Annual Sale is LIVE

I have to admit that it’s been hard not to spill the beans on the straw bale workshop locations this year. Gabriella and I have been excited about the lineup for some time and many of you have been urging us to give away the secrets over the last few weeks. Well, we can finally share the details with you about the classes, YAY!

straw bale workshop winnerWe’ve got 5 stellar hosts on board this year and locations across the country to make travel as easy as possible for most of you. I’m excited to tell you all about the hosts and the locations, but first, please meet Mary Lea, the guessing game winner. She not only got all the locations correct, but she did it in less than 45 minutes! That’s no small task as I made the clues a bit harder this year. Some would argue I made them a LOT harder and I know many of you put in multiple hours of research. At the very least, I know that you learned something new and had some fun in the process. So welcome Mary Lea and congratulations on winning a FREE WORKSHOP! I look forward to seeing which location you choose.

For those of you who didn’t win the free workshop, there’s always next year! But of course, you don’t want to wait a whole year for the chance to win a spot. Instead, let’s get down to the details of what’s happening this year so that you can join us and begin your dream of living in a straw bale house! Sometimes it’s helpful to hear what others have to say about their experience at our workshops. Here’s what Leslie Arellanes shared with us after she and her friend Danielle attended a workshop in upstate New York.

“Wow! Where do I even start? That was one of the best weeks of my life. I think Danielle and I are going to be your Straw Bale groupies. Thank you so much for creating such a magical workshop!”

As much as each of our workshops are designed to teach you about straw bale construction, I want people to have a blast throughout the process…having fun makes learning SO much easier! What’s more, I want people to connect and create long lasting friendships. The format at our workshops allows for just that. We work hard, but we have a TON of fun along the way!

Reid Heimbeck, a graduate from the Whidbey Island, Washington workshop, sums it up beautifully when he says:

“What an awesome experience. It was truly hard to leave and go back home. I realize that this workshop was so much more than just learning about straw bale construction. I met amazing people and gained several close friends from it. You personally are an inspiration to me Andrew: a role model as someone who has intentionally created a fun and fulfilling life. Thank you greatly for that.”

If you’re wondering just what to expect, I can say with great confidence that you will learn everything you need to know about building with straw bales, and a whole lot more. People consistently leave our workshops feeling empowered and ready to take on their own build with confidence. That, to me, is the best gift I can give someone: the tools, know-how, and confidence to move forward with their dreams. If you’re ready to step into your own dream of building a straw bale, click HERE to get started.

To give you a rough idea of what to expect, for starters, you’ll learn about:

  • Bale Stacking Techniques
  • Retying and Resizing Bales
  • Framing Considerations for Effective Baling
  • Electrical Installations
  • Creating Beautiful Curves and Details
  • Windows, Doors, and Other Installations
  • Creating Niche and Truth Windows
  • Hanging Cabinets
  • Plaster Preparation
  • Natural Plastering Techniques
  • Insurance and Financing, and more

Believe me, you’ll leave armed with all the information you need to build your own beautiful straw bale house. For some, one workshop is all it takes. Others take an initial workshop and then come back for a refresher course before they start their build. Still others come back again and again just because it’s so much fun! For real…I’ve had several people come to 5 or more workshops, even AFTER they’ve built their own home just to experience the community, friendship, laughter, and seemingly endless fun.

We’ve placed all of our workshops, DVDs, book, and instant download videos on sale for the next seven days. I highly recommend that you sign up for your workshop of choice as soon as possible as we’ve been known to sell out within the first week! In most cases, once we are full, that’s it, we can’t add more spaces, so now’s the time to secure your spot. The sale ends exactly a week from today on Friday, December 1 at 9am PST. Be sure to get your workshop registration in place before then. Click HERE to check out the workshops and click HERE for the videos and other items on sale.

straw bale workshop bonuses

Oh yeah, I guess I should tell you that you get all of our instant download videos and our book, A Modern Look at Straw Bale Construction, as a bonus when you sign up for a workshop. That’s hours of detailed, video instruction on foundations, framing for bale structures, baling techniques for both post and beam and load bearing construction, plastering with natural hydraulic lime, and trade secrets, tips and techniques on how to be your own contractor. So although you can save money on any of those items during the sale, you can get them for FREE with your workshop tuition. Just another reason why it’s so worth your time and money to join us. Here’s what Clint Pinder said about the value of the workshop after attending in Ottawa several years ago:

“This class literally PAID FOR ITSELF in the first day. The amount of knowledge that Andrew shared along with his ability to explain complex details in simple, easy to understand language made the educational aspect of this workshop amazing. AND, we had a blast!!!”

So why are you still reading this page when there are workshops to sign up for (I’ve tried to make it fun and engaging, so maybe I succeeded)? Click HERE to learn more about each location and to sign up today. Once again, you can click HERE for the videos and other items too. I look forward to meeting you and spending a week of education, fun, and connection together soon!

Happy Baling,

  1. I want to build a strawbale home on my land. How does one get considered to be a host and what are the requirements?
