What Is a Workshop Like?
The daylight hours are full and long. We work hard on the job site in the morning and then break for a leisurely lunch. Our afternoons continue the hard work of the morning.
Our dinner and evening break is for fun and play. We encourage people to bring instruments and their willingness to play together.
Although physical work is involved in plastering, participants are encouraged to work at their own pace. You know your limits, and those limits are respected. We aim to get as far as possible in the plastering, from interior cob & clay to exterior brown coat of lime plaster, and do so at a safe pace.
3 hearty meals a day are included in your tuition. Delicious and filling, participants always seem amazed at the great food prepared by the hosts and make a point of thanking the kitchen crew!
Camping is available on-site for free. Toilet facilities are provided, including showers. We ask that showers be kept to a minimum in both duration and frequency to save water and to make sure that every participant has the opportunity to enjoy a hot shower.
Thinking about staying in town? Plenty of hotel and Air B&B options in this popular destination area.
Want to bring your RV? This location is near a small mountain town with other campground options for those seeking to bring their RV and wanting hook-ups. (There may be limited room for 1-2 RVs without hook-ups at this workshop location on a first-come first-served basis; please contact us with questions.)
More Than Just Plastering
Imagine summer-camp-for-adults meets a good old-fashioned barn-raising, and you have a strawbale.com workshop!
For us, building without fun is like living without breathing. We love what we do, and that is what makes the difference.
In fact, we often get feedback that the friendships created during the week are a huge part of the workshop’s success for folks. We’ve even had folks include workshops as part of their honeymoon vacation! It really is SO much more than just a workshop.
