Looking Back at Our 2024 Hands-On Straw Bale Workshops: A Year of Meaningful Growth

Celebrating Our Journey Together

Dainella and I find ourselves looking back on a journey filled with achievement, insight, and beautiful connections. We’re grateful not only for the tangible results but also for the meaningful experiences shared with each of you along the way.

Heartfelt Gratitude from Our Hosts

Each workshop brought something unique, and our hosts consistently expressed heartfelt gratitude for the dedication, maturity, and camaraderie each participant brought to the table. Seeing everyone work so well together was inspiring; the genuine respect and ease of teamwork made the impact of the work all the more profound. For our hosts, this meant not only advancing their projects but also fostering trust in the collaborative process.

Hands-On Learning and Deeper Understanding

For our participants, the workshops were more than a checklist of tasks. They became immersed in the practical art of straw bale construction. Many participants had read about the methods, but I'd claim that there’s something transformative about working with the materials firsthand. Through hands-on practice and engaging discussions, participants deepened their understanding and gained the confidence to apply these skills on their own. Books and videos can only do so much; handling the materials brought the concepts to life in a way that only real-world experience can.

Growth for Us as Instructors

For us as instructors, watching the season unfold has been incredibly rewarding. The weight of planning and executing all the straw bale workshops was significant but worth every bit. Challenges arose, as they do in all complex endeavors, but each one offered a chance to grow and refine our teaching approach. We close this season with our passion for this work strengthened!

Excited for What’s Ahead

Looking forward, we’re excited to build on what this community has accomplished, the skills learned, connections made, and the progress on each unique straw bale path forward gives us all every reason to celebrate—and plenty of inspiration to keep moving forward!

Thank you for making this year's straw bale workshops so wonderful!
